Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg was the son of the Austrian painter Karl Josef Kuwasseg and first trained and worked with this father before becoming a sailor.

He returned to France in 1883 where he began his formal artistic training and studied under Durand-Brager and Eugene Isabey.

He specialised in painting scenes of the coast and landscapes of northern France particularly Normandy and Brittany.

Kuwasseg exhibited at both the Paris Salon and the Salon of French Artists where he achieved the bronze medal in 1892.

Kuwasseg’s delicate yet strong style was highly valued during his lifetime and he was regarded by his contemporaries as one of the finest artists of his genre.
