John Fitz Marshall was a painter of landscapes, animals and still life subjects who lived and worked in Croyden. It is thought that he is probably the son of John Marshall. While Fitz Marshall’s works are relatively rare he exhibited widely during his lifetime.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1883 and 1903 as well as exhibiting at Suffolk Street, Grosvenor Gallery, the New Gallery and at various other venues. Titles at the Royal Academy include “Chestnut Boughs”, “During the Sermon - the choirmaster’s Terrier” and “A Challenge”.

John Fitz Marshall is best known for his pictures of dogs in interiors.
