Charles Francois Pecrus

French 1826 – 1907
Pecrus13824
A genre and marine painter, Pecrus was born on 6 February 1826 in Limoges and died in Paris on 10 April 1907. Schooled in France he was a pupil of Fichel and of Javet and featured in the Paris Salon with genre subjects from 1857 to 1905.

He collaborated with N. Diaz of Barbizon and then became the friend of Eugene Boudin. Pecrus also became acquainted with Jongkind and Alfred Stevens. At first Pecrus painted entirely interior and genre scenes in the style of Louis XIII.

Although he painted some remarkable portraits one prefers his landscapes, marine scenes and animal paintings that came later, probably under the influence of Diaz, Jongkind and especially Boudin of whom Pecrus held in esteem and possessed work by.

He would later bequeath Boudin’s work to the Museum of Honfleur.
