Hardy exhibited at Suffolk Street from 1871 to 1897 and was elected R.B.A. in 1884. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy and New Watercolour Society.
Hardy’s prolific coastal scenes, painted in fresh and vivid colours achieved enormous popularity. With perhaps the exception of Charles Napier Mey and William Wyllie, no marine artist has achieved the popularity of Thomas Bush Hardy.
His son, Dudley Hardy, was a painter and also an illustrator.
