British 1855-1943 Walter Tyndale was born at the Chateau Schapsdael, near Bruges, on 10 August 1855. Here he was educated and, at the age of 16, attended drawing classes at the city’s academy. Following the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War, the Tyndale family retreated to England and in 1871 settled in Bath. Walter Tyndale went on to become one of the most popular and influential topographical watercolourists working at the turn of the century.
