Theophile Emmanuel Duverger
French 1821- 1886
There is a great contrast in temperament between the simple French genre painter and the somewhat romanticist Duverger. Thanks to this romanticism and a wider conception searching after not only the outer but also the inner aspect of his sitters, Duverger may have been said to have aimed higher in his genre subjects than his less complex rivals.
In view of these qualities, one would have to marvel at Duverger’s beautifully executed works; a place for which would not be so hard to find in anyone’s heart or home.
He exhibited a number of portraits and genre paintings at the Paris Salon between 1846 and 1882, and was awarded medals in 1863 and 1865.
Works by this artist can be seen in Museums and Art Galleries throughout Europe, including Bordeaux, Cambrai, Glasgow and Sheffield.
