Artists Biography
Tito Conti
Italian 1842 - 1924
Throughout the 19th Century ran a continuing fondness for the “keepsake” tradition of the depiction of beauty, gentle, sweet and somewhat coy. However, in the second half of the period a number of painters emerged who endowed the genre with considerably more sense of style. These purveyors of nameless, ultra fashionable female beauties created a special period of art which saw some of the most stunning paintings of the century.
Tito Conti has to be considered one of the more accomplished painters of this period. With his elegant ladies and fine dressed maids we are spoilt with the sheer luxury with which he decorates the canvas. Where Tito Conti sets himself apart from other artists of this subject is with his portrayal of these women with an almost roguish, flirtatious quality. He dares to cross the boundary of the canvas by getting his ladies to blatantly flirt with the viewer.
